Preparation takes a full twenty-six hour cycle.

Chell helps me report the Gemini as stolen and then re-register it under a new name. Nova helps me pull out the meager remnants of my bank account and start a new one with an under the table, non-Zephyr company that she and Chell both swear is safe. They work together to jailbreak my watch and reconfigure it the same way that, apparently, everyone else's around here is as well. There's nothing to be done for my pad, so that gets tossed in a trash compactor and I'm provided with an identical old-school burner phone to Chell's and a new one, supplied by a smaller company with no ties to Zephyr or the government.

Jules helps me pick out a wig. I choose a shoulder-length, mousy brown thing that matches my eyebrows well enough to blend. I try it on, but one glance in the mirror makes me want to dig my nails into my scalp and pluck out each hair one by one. My hair hasn't been long since I was ten, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I nap on a beanbag chair with my nose buried in the collar of my jacket, Juno's faint vanilla shampoo and hair dye scent still clinging on just enough to help me rest.

She's on the news again— the good news, not the Zephyr-sponsored propaganda they call INN— when I awake. The only camera angle they seem to have is a blurry shot of her through a cloudy window. She's only identifiable by her green hair, marking the first time in over a week I've been grateful for the bright color. They don't show the picture of me on Doda again and I thank the stars for small miracles.

By the time we're ready to go, I'm restless. I want to get Juno out now but apparently there's much more preparation involved with breaking someone out of prison than I previously knew. Who would've thought?

What I know about the plan is this: We're taking the Gemini and Mars' four-seater Voyager class called Echo. Chell and I will take the Gemini, and Mars, Nova, and Jules will come in Echo. We'll dock at the loading bay using some false credentials Chell whipped up. We have approximate blueprints of the prison that we can view through our watches. Beyond that, we're figuring it out as we go along.

Great. No plan, no schedule.

Sounds great for an autistic person who is always one unexpected sensory input away from a full-blown meltdown.

When we leave, it feels like we're preparing for battle. In a way, we are. All of us are clad in identical black clothes layered with pieces of IPF armor and uniform, bulletproof vests tight underneath our shirts. We're ready to win the latest fight in a war Juno has been waging since she was fifteen.

I strap myself into the pilot's chair of the Gemini. Chell is in the backseat and the other three are in the Echo. It feels odd, having someone other than Juno in the back chair.
